Newley Purnell Winter 2002-2003 Newley wrote an article for Transitions Abroad about what to look for in a TEFL Program. He mentions his time as a student and teacher at CEDEI. Read the full story... Amanda Smith Summer 2002 "I'm hopefully going to be teaching English next year in Cusco, and I'm beginning to realize more and more how many doors the TEFL certificate will open for me!" Ryan Wells Summer 2000 "After serving in the Peace Corps in Samoa, I was traveling around the world with plans of becoming an ESL teacher. Rather than return home and then get a certificate, I decided to incorporate Cuenca into my trip and get my certification at CEDEI. After finishing the course, I returned to the US and taught ESL in Boston. I now live in Maui where I am a junior high teacher." "CEDEI is a much more interesting way to get certified than in a classroom in your hometown. The international flavor, the Ecuadorian students in our classes, and actually becoming a part of the Cuenca community are things you can't get elsewhere. The TEFL and TBE (Teaching Business English) certifications from CEDEI definitely helped me get a job when I moved to Boston." Jack Towne Summer 2000 "CEDEI and the TEFL course have had a life changing impact on me. I had always enjoyed teaching, but in college I had concentrated on business courses. I saw TEFL as an opportunity to experience teaching first hand as well as see some of Latin America. The techniques I learned in the TEFL course have landed me two teaching jobs: one as an English instructor in Latin America, and one as a high school Spanish/Accounting teacher in the suburbs of Chicago. The training is hands-on, and the environment cannot be matched. Now as a full-time teacher in the States, I plan to use my TEFL certificate in the summer to travel around the world and get paid while doing it." |
