Do I need a BA to take the TEFL course? No. A BA is preferred, but not essential. Candidates for the TEFL course must have a strong educational background with excellent speaking and writing skills. I am concerned about my grammar... will I get help with this? You are not alone; this is a common concern. You will have thorough Language Analysis and awareness training during the course. Will I teach Ecuadorian students while I am on the TEFL course? Yes. You will teach Ecuadorian students every evening during the course. Each time you teach, you will be observed and critiqued by one of our trainers. The practicum is, in many ways, the most important part of the TEFL training course. Is CEDEI's TEFL Certificate internationally recognized? Yes. The CEDEI TEFL Certificate is internationally recognized, and our graduates are teaching in many countries around the world. How much homework is there on the TEFL course? You will have between one and two hours homework per night. The homework includes lesson planning for the next day and review of Methodology and Language Analysis from the morning class. It is up to you how much time you spend on homework. What kind of resources are available at CEDEI? CEDEI has a fully equipped EFL library with books, tapes, visuals, etc. There is also a computer lab if you want to download material from the Internet. What should I bring with me for the TEFL course? Bring scissors, blu-tak, photos (family, town, state, etc), a map of the US, postcards of the US, a few pages from the Yellow Pages phone book, brochures on any places of interest. Start collecting authentic (non-text book) materials that are light and unavailable in Ecuador; you will use everything in your classes with the Ecuadorian students. What support will I get after the TEFL course? We will assist you in researching and choosing a suitable job. This help is available to you from the first day of the TEFL course and throughout your career (we have a large network of schools and graduates). At CEDEI, we are in contact with our graduates overseas, and we try to maintain the latest information on particular countries and schools. All kinds of people. The age range of TEFL candidates is 21-65, and almost every professional background has been represented over the years. People take a TEFL course at different times of their lives and for a variety of reasons. There is no typical TEFL student; the very nature ofthe course attracts a diverse group of people. At CEDEI, we encourage anyone who has a sincere interest in teaching and experiencing other cultures to take the TEFL course. While in Cuenca, TEFL students will have the choice of living with an Ecuadorian family or in a nearby hostel. Host families provide three meals a day and laundry service. More importantly, living with a host family provides a rich intercultural and personal experience. Students opting to stay in a hostel will have a more independent daily routine, and they will be responsible for their own meals and laundry service. Is there internet access? Indeed, there is. CEDEI students have Internet access in our computer lab. As well, numerous Internet cafes are located near CEDEI. |
